The Grounds of Alexandria is one of the most beautiful places in Sydney that you should consider for a coffee, a few drinks, dinner or even to host a wedding.
It was started in April 2012 by co-owners Ramzey Choker and Jack Hanna who turned an industrial precinct into a popular place for people of all ages to enjoy.
It is worth going to The Grounds of Alexandria for all ages. You can have a great time in the cafe, restaurant or just walk around taking beautiful pictures.
Tip: Best time to go to The Grounds of Alexandria: Go around 2 pm to avoid the crowd. If you are going for a coffee you get plenty of time to enjoy your coffee and the place get less quite so you get a chance to take a few good pictures.
What is the address of The Grounds of Alexandria address?
Building 7a/2 Huntley Street, Alexandria, Sydney. It is a large venue and there are signs everywhere so you won’t have any problems to find this place.
How to get to there?
Drive
Onsite parking is available however it is limited. You should entry via 2 Huntley Street and look for parking near just outside The Potting Shed first as we have been lucky to find parking there than other places.
If you can’t find onsite parking, you can look for street parking. You may be lucky and find free parking depending on the day and time.
We usually drive to The Grounds of Alexandria and we may have been lucky but we have always found parking on site. I have heard from others that it is a struggle to find parking onsite though.
Public transportation
You can catch a train to The Grounds of Alexandria. The closest train station is the Greens Square. It will take around 10-15 mins to walk from the Green Square train station to reach the Grounds of Alexandria.
You can catch a taxi as well if the train doesn’t suit you or you can catch a train to one of the train stations and catch a taxi from there.
What to do at The Grounds of Alexandria?
There are a few things to do inside The Grounds of Alexandria.
Cafe
The Grounds of Alexandria cafe has a good collection of coffee for coffee lovers. You can have a coffee in the cafe or you can take away the coffee and walk around.
The cafe prices are reasonable, you can get a large coffee for $6, regular for $5 and a baby chino for just $1. How good is that for parents?
So how was the quality of the coffee? Would we recommend it? We drink a lot of coffee and we have tried coffees at several different cafes in Sydney and we definitely recommend the coffee at The Grounds of Alexandria. It tastes good and it is reasonably priced.
How was the food at the cafe? The food was also reasonably priced. The burger that I tried wasn’t bad at all. The buns were soft and seemed fresh and the meat was pretty good.
How was the seating area? There is an inside and there is an outdoor seating area. We sat choose to sit inside. The tables and chairs were comfortable. It was busy but we got attention from the staff and got the coffee within 5 minutes of ordering which was really great. Food took around 15 minutes.
The Grounds of Alexandria has its own bakery and patisserie as well in the cafe area.
When you are at the cafe you will be able to see the bakers making fresh pastry in the bakery area.
They roast their coffee and make jams inside the cafe area as well. You should go check it out.
Should you book before you go? Yes, it can get really busy.

The Potting Shed:
The Potting Shed is a restaurant and a bar where you can have a few drinks and food. It has a fun and relaxing vibe.
It is a large open area where you will notice lush green plants on large pots and plants hanging from the ceiling, almost like you are in an indoor garden.
There is a good collection of drinks in the bar. You will be able to order tap beers and a few cocktails which you may not have tried before.
The food menu is good as well. They promote local produce hence you can expect the food to be fresh. There are share platter if you like to share, you can get set menus or individual meals as well.
We have tried the steamed mussels and the lamb shank. Both tasted good and they seemed pretty fresh to me. For the size of the meal and the quality of the food, the price was fair and reasonable.
Overall the place was good, reasonably priced quality food and the staff were friendly even though it was quite busy.
Should you book? Yes, it can get really busy. Book in advanced.

Tip: If you don’t want to go to The Cafe or The Potting Shed, you can grab a lemonade from the lemonade stand and donuts from the donut van and explore the area.
Florist
If you are looking to buy some flowers there is a florist inside The Grounds of Alexandria. The florist travels to the farms every day to get you the best supplies. There is a good variety of bouquets that will suit every occasion, taste and budget.
Even if you don’t need to buy anything, you should go check it out. You will get good photos of the florist area.
Florist opening hours are 8 am-5 pm Monday-Sunday. We recommend that you go in the morning so the flowers are fresh and also you will get to see all the options available to you.

Markets
The Grounds of Alexandria markets are open alternate weeks. You can expect to find around 80 stalls in the markets. There is a good collection of produces from local bakers and creators.
The Garden
The garden area is set up in a way that feels like you are in someone’s backyard during summertime for a bbq. You will see chef’s cooking burgers and using charcoal to grill meat for you.
There are also two Italian wood fire ovens which are used to make gourmet wood fire pizzas.
There is a variety of drinks available in the garden. You can try fresh smoothies or juices. You also enjoy the ambience with a beer or a wine.
Is The Grounds of Alexandria dog friendly? Not all areas of The Grounds of Alexandria is dog friendly however The Garden area is dog friendly.
The Farm
The Grounds of Alexandria has a small farm area where you and your kids can spend some time admiring cute goats and adorable chickens.
Events
If you are looking for a venue for your next event, you should consider The Grounds of Alexandria. Whether it is corporate events, Christmas party, private party, high tea or the wedding, there is space that suits any event you have in mind.
The Wishing Fountain
Don’t forget to bring some spare coins when you go to The Grounds of Alexandria. There is a wishing fountain where you can throw a coin and your dreams may come true.
It is also for a good cause as the money gets donated to local charity.
